Beware of strange phone calls.....

Please let me know if this happens to you or anyone that you know..

Today I got a call from a customer about something I have seen before, this was a video I watched several months ago but didn't think I would ever hear about it around here.   This customer was contacted by cell phone from someone in India about a computer issue and they needed you to look up parts of your computer to confirm that you have various virus's on your computer.

Here is a video example of what they are trying to do.

First off no one from Microsoft or any other tech support company is going to contact you to tell you that you have a virus so just hang up right away and contact your local geek and ask them about this.  What they do is talk you into looking up the Event Viewer (which is on every computer) to see if there is any errors, there usually is and they are non threatening.  The supposed tech on the phone will claim that these errors mean you have a virus when in fact they usually mean that a service did not start up properly or a program crashed and you just had to reboot the computer.

If you happen to get talked into what ever tell you they will try to charge you 200/300 dollars for the service and you may get a larger bill at the end of the month, just contact your bank/credit card company to have it stopped and I would suggest calling your local computer geek to have it fixed.  During the tech support call with them they usually will talk you into letting them have remote access and they will disable everything so when you say no I do not want to pay for service they will reboot your computer and it ends up not working at all, its their way of convincing you that it was infected.

Here is a short video to show you what the event viewer looks like

I even looked at my own computer just now and it shows 228 errors but this is over the past year
and I know there is nothing wrong with my system.

So this is just a warning I do hope that no one has to go through this but incase it does or if you hear about a friend/relative let them know what is going on.

- just me trying to save everyone a dollar here and there.

- PS tell your friends to like my facebook page so I can get this information out to more people
