Network Security

I got bored today and drove around town doing another survey of the Wireless
connections in town. I drove around for about an hour down every street with
my laptop and ran a wireless network detector and counted how many wireless
connections are here in town.

I did this two summers ago and got about 220 or so wireless network connections,
this time I came close to 500 which is interesting.  One thing I did look at is that
we still have quite a few people who do not have their wireless password protected
about 140 of those 500 which is quite a bit

One thing I have noticed is people do not realize why its important for you to set up
a password for your wireless.

If anyone were to do any illegal activity the cops will be showing up to your door
and since wifi range is about 300' more or less it could be anyone around you. with
technology getting better all the time people can pick up your internet from further
distances.

Some people tend to do more on a computer than others so and when they are getting
internet for free they tend to take advantage of that and you end up getting slower
internet speeds because you neighbor is downloading music, movies.

I do suggest that you google the brand name and the model to see about setting a
password or calling your local geek figure it out.
