A little something to read before you do something you may regret.
I don't know whom of you have been paying attention to the news lately but there has been an issue with a certain computer manufacturer that most people have to be aware of. This company has been riding down a hill lately that has brought it to the point where they are deciding to quit making PC's. Several months ago I found an article about the Insurance company Squaretrade which is the company you go through when you buy an extra warranty on a laptop or any other type of electronic device.
In this article they linked a PDF document that listed the failure rate of laptops and netbooks and showed which of them had the most and least failure rates over a 3 year period, below is the link to this document.
1 in 3 Laptops fail over 3 years
As you peruse through this document you will see which brands are known to have the least amount of failures and which has the most... you will be quite surprised. This company I speak of recently tried to jump into the tablet market and after 6 months they failed and decided to cancel the whole project which led to the decision to either spin off their PC manufacturing portion of the company or sell it off (basically they are done with making pc's).
I had received an ad in my email today that had this particular brands items for sale and the price seems to be very good but when you look at the quality and the failure rate and the fact that you may not be able to get parts 2 years down the road for these proprietary PC's, I would think twice before buying.
The reason for the title of this article is for one reason, before you go out and buy your next computer call your local geek (whomever he/she may be) and ask questions before you go to BIGBOX store and talk to a salesman who knows nothing about being a tech and sells you his next commission.
